At Damore Dentistry, we provide a comprehensive approach for all your preventative dental care needs. Our goal is to work with you and each member of your family to keep your teeth and mouth healthy and clean. We can help prevent dental and systemic conditions through our recommended routine oral health screenings, professional dental cleanings, and x-rays.
Oral Health Screening
Overall preventative care begins with a comprehensive oral health screening. This screening will allow us to identify any dental or systemic conditions and provide a plan to address these issues fully. As part of your oral health screening, our dental hygienist will perform the following screenings:
- An examination of your diagnostic x-rays (radiographs) - This examination is essential for detecting any tumors, tooth decay, cysts, or bone loss. Your x-rays will also help to determine any abnormalities in the position of your teeth and roots.
- A screening for oral cancer - This screening will check your neck, face, lips, throat, tongue, gums, and tissues for any oral cancer indications.
- A gum disease evaluation. This evaluation will check your gums and the bone around your teeth for indications of gingivitis or periodontal disease.
- An examination for tooth decay. Our dental hygienist will use special dental instruments to check your teeth' surfaces for any decay or weakness in the tooth’s enamel.
- An examination of existing restorations. This examination will check for existing problems with crowns and fillings.
Dental Cleanings
After your oral health screening, our Registered Dental Hygienist will perform a complete dental cleaning, which includes:
- Tartar removal: Tartar is plaque that has hardened and is attached firmly to the tooth's surface. Tarter can form below and above the gum line and be removed only by a professional dental hygienist or dentist.
- Plaque removal: Plaque is the nearly invisible layer of sticky substance that forms on teeth. The plaque is a colony of food debris, saliva, and living bacteria that grows on teeth. Inflammation produced by toxins in the bacteria is the beginning of the periodontal disease.
- Teeth polishing: When your teeth are polished, stains and plaque are removed that brushing and scaling have missed.
- Sealants and Fluorides: We offer sealants (for children) and fluorides that can be applied to the teeth to prevent future decay.
At Home Preventative Measures
Personal care of your teeth at home is a crucial part of your overall oral care. We encourage everyone to incorporate these preventative measures into their daily routine:
- Brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste twice a day.
- Floss daily before bedtime
- Use an oral rinse after flossing
- Reduce your intake of sugary foods, coffee, and tobacco
